A place where you can leave it all behind…

Our cottage dates back to the 19th century and was built for the workers in the adjacent quarry - now a Mining museum. Thick stone walls and a fireplace give clues to its heritage and we have tried to maintain its character to this day.

For us, the cottage has always been a place where you walk through the door and leave your worries on the other side… The quiet location means that as you sit on the door step, very often you find that the only sound is the birds or gentle “baaas” from the sheep in the field next door.

Blencathra View has been in the family for over 35 years and has always been a “bolt hole” to escape the fast pace of life.

Back to Basics…

The great thing about our place is that you can get back to basics. An open fire makes for cosy nights in and toasted marshmallows.

The kids love popping down to the Farm where eggs and other treats are left out in a wooden hutch and there are Footpaths all around where you can walk along the river through fields and back along the disused Railway line.

Mining Museum

We’re also lucky to have the Threlkeld Mining Museum on our doorstep which offers steam train rides, panning for Gold and other tours. If you walk past it, you can climb Clough Head (2,381ft) and explore the old stone age settlements!

Ideally situated for the North Lakes

The North Lakes is full of activities and places to go. To name but a few, there are several lakes, the Whinlatter outdoor centre and Go Ape, the Lakes District Wildlife Park, Keswick Golf Course and  much more. On our doorstep is also one of the few wheelchair accessible routes which is the former railway line. This runs from the house and all the way through to Keswick - ideal for bikes, scooters, wheelchairs and

The House

The house features three main bedrooms consisting of a double room, single room and a single bunk bed. There is a converted loft with further bedding possible, however access is via a ladder and we think the house is best suited to no more than six.

Warmed by oil fired central heating, you also have the option of the open fire to boost the temperature and there are two Oil filled electric radiators as well.

Of course with an open fire in the house, safety is key and every room has an integrated fire and smoke detection system together with CO detectors.

Living Room

Seating five, our lounge has an open fire and looks out across the valley. A Samsung Smart TV and fast internet provides entertainment and a HIFI allows you to listen to music etc. There is a selection of board games in the cupboard.

Kitchen

Our extendable dining table seats four or if extended, has capacity for six. There isn’t a dishwasher, so you’ll have to do things the old fashioned way!

Bathroom

Our recently refurbished bathroom features an electric power shower so that you’ll never run out of hot water. A wall mounted heater keeps you warm when you get out!

Three comfortable bedrooms.

The first bedroom as you climb the stairs is a comfortable single, with wardrobe and side table.

Double bedroom

The main double bedroom has a lovely view across the valley and features a large double wardrobe.

Kids Bunk Room

The third bedroom has a double bunk bed and wardrobe and is ideal for kids.
